Everyone’s favorite Aunt returns to the Playhouse stage for the first time in many a year, and Georgia’s sweetest peach brings along one of Jerry Herman’s greatest scores!!
A scrumptious feast of a musical, MAME, opens at the San Pedro Playhouse Russell Hill Rogers Theater, Friday January 21 and runs through February 20. Featuring one of Jerry Herman’s greatest scores and the winner of three Tony Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards, this Broadway hit is based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play AUNTIE MAME by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.
Award winning actor and San Antonio favorite, Anna Gangai is MAME, whose eccentric, bohemian lifestyle is interrupted when her late brother's son, Patrick, is entrusted to her care. Rather than adapt to any societal standards about child rearing, money-making and romance - Mame does everything with her own dramatic flair. Annella Keys plays best friend, Vera Charles. The young Patrick is portrayed by Travis Anderson and Mark McCarver plays the role as an adult. Some of Mame's wild, adventurous spirit is inside everyone who lives for the moment and believes that "life is a banquet!" Special songs include Mame, It's Today, Open a New Window, If He Walked into My Life, We Need a Little Christmas, Bosom Buddies and That's How Young I Feel. Mame’s life is turned up-side-down, many of her priorities change, but she still lives life to the fullest. Timothy Hedgepeth directs.
Other cast members include Belinda Harolds as Agnes Gooch and Christopher Rodriguez as Ito. Rodriguez is also Choreographer. Gloria Sanchez plays Mother Burnside, Steven Bull is Beauregard JP Burnside and Jesse Beere is Peter Dennis. Mr. Babcock is portrayed by Jason Mosher. Amanda Golden, Desiree Johnson, Don Frame, Hayley Burnside, Isidro Medina, Joe Lopez, Kate Miller, Mark Hicks, Melissa Gonzalez, Aly Miller, Alyx Gonzales, Andrew Jacobi Jeter, Chrystal Frost, Jennifer Harris, Lizel Sandoval, Mariela Flor Olivo, Megan Passano, Rachel Wells, Sean Hagdorn, Seis Steves and Trevor Chauvin complete the cast. Jane Hass handles music direction.
