The San Antonio Neighborhood Film Project began as a way to celebrate three new online neighborhood discovery tours; the Westside Murals y Más tour, the Eastside Echoes of the Eastside tour, and the Downtown North River tour stretching from downtown to the Museum Reach river extension. The film competition was open to student, amateur and professional filmmakers to submit films that capture the flavor and authenticity of each neighborhood profiled in the tour. Films submitted range from 1 to 8 minutes each, and include narrative stories, music videos, documentaries, and experimental films.
Two prizes will be awarded for each of the three neighborhood tours, $1000 for 1st prize in the Student category and $3000 for 1st prize in the Professional/Amateur category. The winning entries were selected based upon technical merit and storytelling. The films were judged by a panel of twelve professionals, including actor and San Antonio native Jesse Borrego of Dexter and Fame, Grammy Award-winning musician Henry Brun, award-winning journalist and short filmmaker Sylvia Rincon, currently at KABB-29 Fox, and San Antonio native and award winning filmmaker Ya'Ke.
